![]() We have gathered some of the best children’s books that uplift Black and brown boys, too. Children will be totally engrossed as they’re educated about what it’s like to have a family divided by immigration, such as in René Laínez’s From North to South, or to have little money, like in Trombone Shorty’s memoir for children. Some of what we list here, such as Henry’s Freedom Box by Ellen Levine, bring to life true stories of slavery, oppression, and triumph. These children’s books for boys of color are also for boys and girls of all backgrounds, of course, because we turn to books to expand our worlds as much as to see them reflected. They can see themselves in the pages too. ![]() ![]() But at least now little boys and girls don’t have to resort to reading only books about animals and white kids. ![]() That, as you must know if you’re reading this, is a serious problem that we’re still a long way from fixing entirely. ![]() ![]() He embarked on a thousand-mile pilgrimage through the theological cradle of Christianity, exploring one of the biggest stories of our time: the collapse of religion in the world that it created. Tracing an ancient pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Rome, the bestselling and "virtuosic" ( The Wall Street Journal ) writer explores the past and future of Christianity "What a wondrous work! This beautifully written and totally clear-eyed account of his pilgrimage will have you wondering whether we should all embark on such a journey, either of the body, the soul or, as in Egan's case, both." -Cokie Roberts Moved by his mother's death and his Irish Catholic family's complicated history with the church, Timothy Egan decided to follow in the footsteps of centuries of seekers to force a reckoning with his own beliefs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Though she has no wealth, she trades her stories like currency with people who are kind to her. Binet digs into Heydrich’s history, trying to understand what lead him to become the man known as the Butcher of Prague, the Hangman of Prague, the Blond Beast, and - Hitler’s nickname for him - The Man with the Iron Heart. ![]() He was held up as an example of the Aryan ideal: tall, blonde, quite clever, and very, very cruel. Sadly, it’s impossible to tell the story of heroes without spending time with the villain - and Binet paints a vivid picture of Heydrich. In 1942, they were assigned to parachute into Czechoslovakia, make their way to Prague, and bring a well-deserved reckoning to Reinhard Heydrich. ![]() The story is meant to honor two heroes of Czechoslovakia: Jozef Gabčik, a Slovak factory worker, and Jan Kubiš, a Czech soldier. As the first-person narrator says early in the book: ‘Inventing a character in order to understand historical facts is like fabricating evidence.’ The events and the characters in this novel are all true to life. ![]() ![]() We could summarize this book by saying, ‘This is historical fiction about the assassination of the Nazi Reinhard Heidrich in Prague during WWII.’ But that doesn’t come anywhere close to describing what’s it’s really about. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was something I had to acknowledge before starting this book. With his eloquence, easy humor, and concision, Gladwell is a natural for the TED format. Gladwell is a frequent guest at “TED Talks,” the popular program that invites speakers in the fields technology, entertainment, and design to deliver their ideas in 18 minutes or less. In a 2013 interview, Gladwell admitted that he was “too in love with the broken-windows notion,” and added that he was “so enamored by the metaphorical simplicity of that idea that I overstated its importance.” His 2000 bestseller, The Tipping Point, was credited with popularizing (and even glamorizing) the controversial “broken window theory” of law enforcement-a strategy for cracking down on crime that has been praised for reducing the crime rate but criticized for violating basic rights and civil liberties. David’s victory was improbable and miraculous. Malcolm Gladwell is the first to admit that he’s made mistakes. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. ![]() ![]() ![]() AFK Knives Agee, Taylor Agocs, Steve Aguilar, Apolinar Ahlers, Richard (KSS) Ahmed, Gulzan (Ursa) Ahmed, Gulzar (Ursa) Ahti Aida, Yoshi AIK Aiken, Ben Airborne Knives Aitor Knives AKAT Knives AKC Italy Akeron Knives Akers, Bill Akopyan & Koukin Knives Al Mar Knives Albecete, Zafrill Albert, Stefan Alberto, H.D.
